In my opinion, you are not a very good owner keeping your dog outdoors. No dog is suitable for outdoor life. All dogs should be part of the family, not some alarm clock. If you are looking for something new to do, why not improve your dog’s life instead of getting a new pet? Whether it needs more training or what, you could research and keep busy doing that. So it might be a lot of fun for you, plus you will be a better pet owner.
Right off, I will tell you that ferrets and sugar gliders are not at all what you seem to be looking for, being expensive, messy and difficult.
Chinchillas, hedgehogs and rats are not quite as expensive or hard, but still quite so. All three would need more than or about $100 for starting costs. Keep in mind that chinchillas alone usually sell for $100 or more, but you can find all these for small adoption fees in shelters. Hedgehogs can be messy, like ferrets, and sometimes difficult to get along with. Chinchillas and rats both need at least one companion.

There is a huge array of lizards. Some will cost $50 others a few hundreds. One great begginer lizard that is cheap is the leopard gecko. You only need one, and they poop once a day, so very easy to clean. You do however must feed them live bugs which need thier own care.

And the only animals that could harm your other pets are those that are typically hunters. So in this case ferrets are the biggest danger. Hedgehogs as well, but they tend to stay out of the way instead of picking fights. Rats and chins are timid like guinea pigs or gerbils and would only attack if they cannot run away and hide.
